Introduction
Pediatric Urology is a highly specialized medical discipline
which deals with Surgical Diseases of Genitourinary system (kidneys,
ureters, bladder and genitalia) in children from newborn age to 15 years
of age. This website is aimed at creating awareness among people and also
to help parents understand the diseases which their kids might be suffering
from. We have included patient information files on common Pediatric Urological
disorders along with clinical photographs to make the information more
comprehensive and understandable.
WHY Pediatric Urology?
- Pediatric urological disorders are very different
from adult urological disorders as most of these problems are congenital
in nature. (present from birth or birth defects)
- The way these kids respond to medicines and surgery
is also different to adults.
- Most important of all - DECISION MAKING is the
key concept of Pediatric Urology. Which diseases to operate and when
to operate is the most important factor.
- The guiding principle in a Pediatric Urologist's
mind is to perform a surgery only when absolutely required. Some of
the diseases which were very aggressively operated earlier on are now
managed medically or tackled with less aggressive surgery now.
- Also, if surgery is required- an operation
which would give best long-term results should be provided with shorter
and less painful hospitalization.
